5 Tips to Avoid the Pitfalls When Setting up a Business
Fast-track your journey to success by following these simple tips that will lead to profound results in your business and life without all the headaches and drama along the way.
Listen to your heart or gut feeling first so you can then take action with your head – not the other way around. You don’t need a strategist, expert, person in the industry, family member or close friend to tell you what you should do, how you should do it and what you’re doing wrong. You first need to FEEL what’s going on for you, understand that every single person is coming from a completely different perspective and point of view from you and that you are the only person that is looking at it from your perspective and no one else will ever be able to do that. They have not experienced your life, seen your point of view or have the same values and and beliefs that you do. I always empower my clients to understand that they have a very unique set of skills and only they will ever be able to see from their view point what’s going on, how they feel, what makes them happy, sad, excited, joyful, down, upset, etc. That’s what sets them apart from any other individual. It’s time to realise your true potential and really honour what’s going on inside and trust your own intuition.
When you take control and listen to your own inner guidance and intuitive compass you will then be able to live your true purpose with conviction and honesty. We have been misguided for too long into thinking that we need to keep looking outside of ourselves for the answers. Only you have the vision and the magic formula for your business. You don’t need to copy or mimic anyone else. You don’t even have to take well-meaning advice from anyone that doesn’t resonate with your true calling. Only when you have owned and understood that can you really look for support and guidance from the right individuals and groups to help you bring your ideas and dreams about business, life and/or career to life.
02. Take Action
Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished. Procrastination can lead to feelings of guilt, inadequacy, depression and self-doubt. Commit yourself to taking action TODAY. What are the specific actions or steps that you are going to take to enhance your business? Write down what action steps you need to take every few days and do your best to stick to them. Keep your notes close by and even pin them up on your vision board so that you can easily refer to them on a daily basis to keep you on track. Keep your blinkers on and don’t get distracted by what everyone else is doing or saying Remember that each step, big or small, will take you that much closer to your destination and with each step more opportunities will open up for you.
03. Be Consistent
The difference between good business and great business is consistency. Your audience is looking for a unique experience throughout their interactions with your business but the one thing that they want most is consistency. If you give people an amazing experience one-to-one or on your website but then the interactions through your communications, support or deliverables are less than desirable they will think twice about doing business with you or buying from you again.
Establishing and maintaining consistent branding will deliver a very specific set of impressions: Are you serious? Are you trustworthy? Are you focused? Can you deliver what you say you’ll deliver?
If the image you sold to your customers or clients right at the start begins to show inconsistencies, you’ll have to work a lot harder to regain their trust. Protect your brand. Eliminate any confusion around it. Make a commitment to putting systems and structures in place and keep them sharp and consistent. Value and respect the experience your customer is going to have with you throughout their interactions with your brand.
04. Celebrate Your Successes
There is no end destination in business, because when you are truly aligned with your purpose in your business your creativity knows no bounds. That doesn’t mean you won’t joyfully tick off completed projects or goals along the way. But a healthy business is continually expanding in a very natural way, so there will always be something new and exciting to achieve or aspire to.
One of the biggest things I’ve come to understand is the importance of celebrating successes in business, however minor, and giving yourself a regular pat on the back – that could be a night out, your favourite glass or wine or a nice bar of chocolate. Assessing what has been completed gives the perspective and renewed focus to help you rework and reshape things in your business and the motivation to stay aligned to your purpose as you are propelled forward with gusto.
05. Say No to What You Don’t Want
If you’re not used to saying no to things you really don’t want in life you’re going to find it even harder to say no to opportunities in business. I learnt the hard way by saying yes to everything that came my way even though I knew I just didn’t like the project and had a sense about it not feeling quite right from the start but I took it on regardless. I could see so clearly that I was taking on too many small and unprofitable project that inevitably turned me into a sad and busy fool.
I focused on the things that kept our business from growing, rather than the things that enabled our business to develop and expand in the way that I really wanted them to. Saying no isn’t easy at the start. But if you want to harness a successful and passionate business that will keep growing, you have to learn how to say no to the things, projects or people that just aren’t aligned to you or your business. Trust your gut! It will guide you every step of the way, even if everyone else around you thinks you’re ‘crazy’. Act on your convictions, and harness the power of saying no. By saying no to the stuff you don’t want, it will open up a space to let in the big, magical and beautiful things you do want in your business and in your life!
